About the 7th Hussars

Return to the 7eme Hussards home page

The 7th Regiment of Hussars was formed in 1995 by Capitaine Ron Roberts with inspiration and help from Chef d' Escadron Chris Franke, an officer with Brigade Lasalle in France. We encompass members throughout North America.

The goal of the 7th Hussars through Living History is to:

  1. Educate the public as to the life of a hussar in the service of the Emperor Napoleon in 1806.
  2. Perpetuate the skill of arms on horseback, and the duties of a hussar with an emphasis on safety and authenticity.
  3. Honor the memory of the men and horses that fought and died as members of the 7th Hussars.
  4. Procure, translate and disseminate period cavalry manuals, the history of the regiment and first-person memoirs indigenous to the 7th Hussars.

The 7th Hussars participate in Living History events in North America and Europe. We have taken part in historical motion pictures and documentaries. We have demonstrated for school and youth groups. We are recognized as a Non-Profit Corporation 501 (c)(3) under the guidelines of the Internal Revenue Service. Should you like more information, please click on the "Contact Us" link on the website.

As the mist rises across the meadow, the morning sun glints off your saber.   The horses are tense with excitement - they live for this moment.  Pounding hooves and trumpets call, the wind catches your horse’s mane and your pelisse flies on your shoulder.  Sabres flash overhead and in an instant it is over.  Victory!  The twenty most thrilling seconds of your life.  Come, live them with us!
